A SUCCESS STORY SINCE 1841

In 1841, Wilhelm Spindler bought the plot at Wallstrasse 12, right on the bank of the Spreekanal, across from Fischerinsel. He became the first German to run a dry-cleaning business, and he made a huge success of it. Soon, the premises proved too small for Spindler‘s laundry business. So Spindler commissioned the architectural firm of Kayser & v. Grossheim to raise a trading estate that would be home to a variety of companies.

The post-war development of the premises was defined by the close proximity of the Berlin Wall. Being located in the eastern part of the city, the complex of buildings was used by a state-owned production plant of heating systems.

In 1998, long after the city had been reunited, the buildings were refurbished for the first time. The acquisition of the property by AachenMünchener marked the onset of a new era for Spindlershof: The renowned architectural firm of Aukett+Heese is converting the classic building complex into a modern forward-looking location, to be completed by 2016.

The sensitive revitalisation process is aimed at a single goal: to turn this back into a place where success stories are produced.
